SLDM - Devizes April 2010

Thank you for today, I really appreciate the session you ran for us today, personally I enjoyed it very much and I did have a very positive ‘vibe’ from the rest of the group during the day.

I have had the evaluations back now and have had a quick skim through.  We use a rating system with a maximum score of 6 and I think I’m right in saying that every delegate scored both your sessions 6.

Doesn’t get better than that.

Norfolk County Council Annual Conference - March 2010
On behalf of the team of three in the front row on Thursday, thank you! We all arrived in work this morning brimming with ideas, and enthusiasm.  Not that we didn't have those already!  But the window of possibilities has just got wider! It was just a shame that the team of 362 could not be there too!

I am writing to express my thanks to you with regards to your involvement at this week's conference.  The quick offline feedback from both schools and suppliers was very
positive with a clear key message that all felt that attending had been a rewarding and enjoyable experience.  It only remains for me to express heartfelt thanks and I look forward to
working with you again some time in the future.

Professor Stephen Heppell - March 2010
John is one of those rare folk who I could listen to over and over and over again, constantly discovering something fresh about learning in this new Millennium. Somehow John's mind has merged and absorbed the playfulness of children and the reflection of great practitioners. What he says is grounded in common sense, inspired by vision and just flippin' reaffirming to hear."

February 2010 - ESIS Merthy Tydfil
Thanks for such an inspirational talk yesterday at ESIS-sedimentary rocks will never be the same again

The keynote speech is very important to us, especially having it at the start of the day as it sets the scene for the rest of the day.  The ICT team and the delegates enjoyed it and it provoked a lot of thought.  It was pitched just right thank you, stretching us but not being out of our reach.  Your break-out was also enjoyed by delegates.  Truly inspiring talk this morning.  Thank you.

NAACE, Blackpool March 2009
How do you describe John Davitt? If you've never listened to John, you've really missed something! My description, humorous, free form, eccentric.

The last two sessions I went to were both with John Davitt, a keynote and then I stayed on for his breakout session. A truly fun guy who seems to have more ideas per minute than I do all day.

SSAT, February 2009

July 08 - Boston, USA
John was a speaker at BLC08, Boston, USA July 2008 "I had the pleasure of hearing John Davitt’s keynote at BLC08 and then afterwards, having several conversations with him. I ended up purchasing his book, New Tools for Learning Accelerated learning meets ICT." "My conversation with John Davitt at lunch (as well as his presentation) inspired me to think about how my students can live in both the digital world and the real world. How can their writer’s notebooks, art sketchpads, and be combined to capture and reflect on the world as they see it?" "The Thursday morning Keynote presenter was John Davitt, a British author, developer of learning tools, former English teacher, and educational writer for the Guardian. What began an ingenious display of British wit turned into a thoughtful and entertaining hour-long demonstration of how to engage and inspire an audience of educators (or a classroom of learners)." Throughout his keynote presentation and afternoon session, which I also attended, Davitt offered up a number of memorable “one-liners” such as the following that contained subtle yet important messages for school administrators and teachers: Chase the endorphins of enthusiasm, lets make schools delightful, stress kills learning, students go through school getting assessed but never noticed. Had the extreme pleasure of attending John Davitt’s keynote this morning. Currently I’m sitting in his ‘after keynote’ session. He has a ‘Learning Event Generator’ that with one click, it creates assignments that make students think, design and create an end product. Why not get John to send you the Learning Event Generator? (Or just run it from his site.) You can customize it with your own ideas to make it fit to your curriculum. You’ll engage your students and make learning fun! And if you ever get the chance to see John talk - run, don’t walk, to see/hear him. John makes learning fun. I have to say that I am very intrigued by what he has to say. He began the keynote showing us his iPhone. He'd scanned some notes he'd scribbled on and somehow got them into the iPhone. He also showed his eBay feedback page and made the point that he received more feedback on his eBay page than we often do in our schools. In both cases, he made it clear that we have tools out there that we're not taking advantage of for our students. "We need to tap into the Web 2.0 wisdom that is out there." The Building Learning Communities conference (July 16 - 18) (BLC08) has been very good. Keynoter John Davitt was excellent – funny, informative, and challenged my thinking. I attended several quality breakout sessions; I took notes and thought about how I would share what I have learned when I get back to my school. The bottom line, for me, is that this visionary illuminated what I have believed in my heart for a long time: schools are a place that can inspire when we unlock the possibilites that our current realities constrain. It's our job as educators to provide this for our children and their future. Thank you, John, for your work.

July 08 - IOE
I was one of the delegates at the conference at the Institute of Education yesterday. I'd like to thank you for your presentation -- it was one of the best presentations I've seen in years: really fresh, funny and interesting to look at.

July 08 Bristol
On behalf of the SW Conference Planning Group, we would like to thank you for the seminar and closing keynote which you so kindly delivered at the SW 10th Anniversary ICT Conference on 2nd July. The success of the day to which you contributed will stay in the memory of the delegates for some considerable time, although it already seems a long time ago as we turn our thoughts to next year.  We are fortunate in this region to be able to call on the inspiration and goodwill of practitioners such as yourself to spread examples of good practice among colleagues from the same region. This is much appreciated by teachers who value the advice form those with first hand experience.

June 08 Loughborough
Please pass on my thanks to John Davitt who made people think outside of the box and provided a different perspective to IT and education.  "enjoyed your talk and the thinking it stimulated".

Phil, VLE Co-Ordinator, Wakefield

I came across your podcast on the RM site, the one from their National Conference in Manchester.  I really like your style, very subtle, informative and above all, engrossing!  I cant tell you how many podcasts Ive sat through and realised half way through that I had missed the last ten minutes because my mind had wandered onto something more important, like what is for dinner.  Thanks for a very informative speech, its really motivating

Torquay Delegate, 4 July 2007
John Davitt used a lovely phrase at Torquay. He called for an 'Adhocracy'. He said ad hoc had negative connotations but this blending together of ICT tools that do the job is an art form that we should learn to love. They are not uniform and just dont sit on the same platform.

This is just a short message to say thank you for the excellent day you provided for the staff at the Hawthorns last week. The feedback I had afterwards was all very positive and I am sure that the ideas you suggested helped those attending to begin to think differently about the way in which ICT can play a significant role in their teaching and the pupil’s learning. You managed to pitch both sessions at just the right level and your introductions and the activities that these led into stimulated a lot of interest in both groups.

Your style of delivery and interaction both illuminated the audience and provided an exciting start to our day.
The practical demonstrations reminded all of the power of ICT that we already have and not to look too far forward. I am truly convinced that the ideas you showcased today will enthuse our teachers to look at the wealth of opportunities they already have in their schools.

London, April 2005, Your specific expertise gave delegates an opportunity to experience and enjoy one of our key themes as learners themselves.  Many thanks again.  I hope you had time to enjoy some of the day as much as I did.
Fantastic workshop leader.  Very detailed, self learning time allowed.  Brilliant ideas really well explained on how to employ it.  Amazing to see what is possible with IT and animation in SWA time-feasible projects.  Offbeat and kept the attention well.  Fun while learning (we were allowed to laugh).

Middlesbrough 22nd April Quite simply you opened my eyes to how easy it is to use ‘the new tools’ to record and respond to other prompts. Fantastic!!! I was a delegate at the Middlesbrough Conference last Friday and attended your workshop. Thank you for that!! – it was quirky – stimulating – exciting – funny – but we learned and there was a meaningful outcome – exactly what we should be doing with children.

Lewisham, March 2005
"A very big thank you for your keynote presentation at the primary ICT Conference in Lewisham last week.
ICT Co-ordinators overwhelmingly commented on how much they had enjoyed your presentation and how it inspired them.  Always inspires me as well."

March 2005
"Thank you so much for the course on Monday, which I found most inspiring.  It was exactly what I needed.  Since then, some of my kids have already created small animations and I have myself managed to learn the basic skills to create some simple Flash animations.  Thank
you again.  The potential is mind blowing!"

March 2005
"Can't believe over a week has gone by since the Inset. There was so much positive feedback about the day and your input, it was spot on.  Some of our less ICT confident staff were particularly enthusiastic and appreciative.  Your manner and style helped put people at ease, and helped us see some things we value in a fresh light.Year 6 have already started using audacity, they just happened to be doing sound in Science the following week!  Other folk have shared ideas for how they're going to try things out in their classes.  Thank you once again."

SETT 2004
Connected a Scottish Education  online journal have recently  asked the Irish visitors to the SETT confereence for their comments on the experience -  read about their views summarised by John Anderson  here.

Thank you so much for the excellent INSET you provided us with a couple of weeks ago.  The morning was a great success and the staff enjoyed the content of the presentation and the activities greatly.  Regardless of their ability all of the staff felt that the language and tone of the presentation was just right and I feel that everyone involved will have been inspired to try out your suggestions.
It was great to be presented with such a realistic and light-hearted view of a subject which still remains very daunting to many.
Many thanks

It was refreshing and inspirational ... I was hugely inspired by your brilliant address to SETT it was the highlight of the conference as far as I was concerned.

South Gloucs Council. September 2004 John Davitt led a session entitled 'ICT Meets Accelerated Learning' which colleagues found very useful as it "prompted a rethink of how to use the technology simply but creatively" and provided "simple techniques" and "effective ways of using 'snippets' of ICT to inject into lessons".

E2BN Conference, July 2004                                                                              Beyond the Classroom and into the Future . The conference was concluded in fine style by John Davitt. Graphically illustrating that the apprehension felt when you think you may be asked a question - the answer to which you haven't a clue - is a phenomenon not confined to young pupils he gave a new twist to the theme of "fearless learning". Fear is a barrier which needs to be removed if successful learning is to take place: by pupils or teachers. Are we in the future? Not yet - we're in an uneasy limbo between trying to move towards what we think is coming within a context developed for 19th Century needs.
